Among the very first crusaders to open the doors of Encore Community Services in 1977, Sister Lillian McNamara, Director of Operations, helped form the organization after recognizing the need for supporting the senior citizen community in New York City. When Encore first opened its doors, Sister Lillian recalls serving 35 meals to homeless seniors in need on its first day. Through Sister Lillian’s unwavering support, strength, and leadership, Encore now remarkably serves more than 87,500 on-site congregate meals annually, delivers more than 83,200 weekend homebound meals, and delivers more than 201,000 meals to homebound elderly each year.
